Day 11. Rifugio Elisabetta to Courmayeur. Our final day of the Tour du Mont Blanc.
This hike seemed to last a very long time and yet now it’s hard to believe that today is our last day! We’ve seen so much beautiful scenery and met lots of wonderful people as well.
Our breakfast was the most basic yet with small packaged muffins, dry bread and boiled coffee and we were out and on the trail again before 7:30. Today we could have taken an easier route and rode a bus to avoid the long descent into Courmayeur but we wanted to walk the last few kilometres into town to where we began 11 days ago. It was quite a cold morning so we had to bundle up till we had climbed high enough to reach the sunny side of the ridge. In addition to a climb today of 656 metres we ended up descending 1.6km in total so it was a knee crunching day by the time we were done.
We were back at our hotel where it all began by mid-afternoon and after cleaning up we were off to have a celebratory drink! Our journey of a trail over 160km with approximately 10km up and 10km down is finished. What’s next?
